I GAVE EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO A NEIGHBOR, SAVED HER LIFE, AND I ENDED UP IN COURT

One autumn evening, I found my neighbor, Mrs. Langley, collapsed on her porch, struggling to breathe. Without hesitation, I performed CPR until the paramedics arrived, saving her life. However, a week later, I received a subpoena—she was suing me for causing rib fractures and internal injuries from the CPR.

Confused and upset, I consulted a lawyer, who confirmed she had a case, as CPR could cause injuries, especially in the elderly. At court, her lawyer portrayed me as reckless, but I defended my actions, stating I followed standard CPR procedures.

Then, my lawyer revealed new evidence: Mrs. Langley had filed an insurance claim before suing me. It turned out she was seeking financial gain, not distress. She admitted it in court, and the case was dismissed.

Although I won, I felt conflicted. Later, I learned Mrs. Langley’s financial struggles had led to her actions. Despite the betrayal, I would still help again—because I knew I had done the right thing.
